Congratulations John,
Belated thanks for your generous donation to the Hinterland Scholarships
and Medical Emergencies Fund by auctioning off your 2006 Mash CDs at the
fundraising dinner during Amerindian Heritage month.
I particularly enjoyed your ex-tempo live performance sans accompanying
track due to the malfunctioning CD player. The second number impressed
me even more when you casually dictated a couple of chords to the
home-made box guitar player who hadn't heard your melody before. The
harmony and rhythm blended so smoothly. No discord.
The enthralled audience was somewhat nonplussed when you disappeared
after your performance. I posited that maybe you are like me, a
non-'wild meat' eater... The buffet also included all kinds of cassava
dishes, salads and lukanani tuma...
Looking forward to seeing you at Mash '06!
Anna lles
P.S. Did you grant permission to Alliance for Change to use your "Wake
Up Guyana" (and frames from the music video) as the soundtrack of their
catchy TV Ad?

Hi John,
The name to blame is procrastination and I am certainly guilty of that.
I am elated, as I think most Guyanese are, of your exploits. It has been
on the news and there is a marked increase in air play of your music.
What you have done is solidifying on the concept that Guyanese music is
creating a place for itself. Of late several locally based performers
have been showing us that Guyanese creativity is not only "appreciated"
by us at home, but others are paying attention to what they offer.
I guess it would be in order, (though late) to say "Thanks for what you
have done for us as a people".
I mean shaking down them Trinis 'at their own thing' could not have been
easy, but rewarding. Now you have a goal, that is to demonstrate that it
was no fluke and I hope that you'll be inspired by the "Guyanese People"
to hold your own from here onwards.
Once again thanks.
Be good to your self and others around you.

Hi Slingshot:
We have been meaning to call you and after returning from Miami, it is
from one thing to another. Orlando Carnival Association is hosting a
benefit for (Caribbean) victims of Katrina at Upper Level Club on
Adanson St, near to Lee Road (the old JJ Whispers site) next Sunday,
October 30th from 1-9 p.m. So far, everything is being donated, and we
were wondering if you might be willing to make an appearance on the
program […]
We also plan to include The Mustard Seed, a local organization that is
responsible for placing families here in Orlando.
We felt that the Red Cross is already established and our own Caribbean
people are probably being overlooked.
We will have a few people from the Carnival Committee in New Orleans who
will be attending the event. They could not have their carnival which
was to take place about three weeks after the hurricane struck.
Thanks so much.

Congrats Sling. You have made us all very proud.
My dad says that he does remember the old days when you use to play at
Estate Junior Staff Club.
Again, continued success and best wishes.

Hi John//Group,
Just as John "Slingshot" brought the work of the “Lonely Bulls” and
“Sons of India” to our generation, he now completes the circle by
introducing his very own, GUYANESE, exciting line up of calypso, reggae
and love songs. No, it’s not the end....!
Now, more than over five decades into his career, Slingshot is more
vital and relevant than ever. Soon to be a musical force, transcending
cultural and language barriers, he forges his way up and through rough
and un-chartered terrain, taking his music to higher heights.
Its soul stirring, celebration of life, spirit, brotherhood and
diversity is a powerful message to a world gone astray. Slingshot is a
jubilant 21st century man, and like the new century, he's just getting
started.....
Stay connected....PIRATES ALL OVER TOWN!!!!
Carl
Ps: Got help with putting this together ... John deserves our praise and
admiration for his tireless work among the needy orphans in Guyana >>>>

Hi John,
Love to you and your family.
I am so very happy for you, congratulations on your win in Miami. I
cannot tell you how happy I am for you.
So what’s new with you over there when will you be coming back to
Guyana?
I miss talking to you. You were so busy the last time you were here.
I am happy that you like the gifts I sent. Did you frame the one for
Annabelle? If not, please do so and put it in her room. That was made
especially for her because she is a Scorpion like me.
Love
Shawndel
