Dear Slingshot,

First, let me thank you again for taking the trouble to put on the concert for our children. It gave them a boost to perform and they were even more thrilled to see themselves on TV afterwards.

A number of outsiders, also, have told us how impressed they were with our girls' performance.

We were hoping that we could get a copy of the tape of the programme, and I told Sister Beatrice that I would ask you to ask your friends at the station if this could be arranged.

But then I was so taken up with Christmas activities, it is only now that I can sit down to the computer to ask - and I would not be surprised to find that that tape has already been 'worked over' and so lost.

So, if you can spare the time from your busy schedule, either to ask your friends for us OR tell me which friend to ask ...............

Thanks a million for helping out.

Blessings and joys for the New Year!

Mary Peter Ngui

Thanks for the greeting. I wish the same for you and your family. May you all be blessed with good health and forever walk in paths which are pleasing to the Creator.

I am somewhat disappointed that you did not receive my e-mail from Epiphany school (sent months ago..... shortly after I had received photos of your success in the competitions). It captured how I felt at the time.

I sent profuse congratulations; commented that such recognition was long overdue; that your performance must have been so compelling, your victory so obvious, clear-cut, and by such a wide margin, that the judges, even though they may have preferred to do otherwise, had no choice but to acknowledge the truth.
[…]
An artist with your spirit, intelligence, experience, musical background, etc., is a rarity nowadays; it brings to mind the saying 'A good man is hard to find.'

That in turn reminds me of a recurring compliment received from virtually all the women I've dated. They all scream "Frankie, a hard man is good to find!!

I was listening to the radio via internet a few weeks ago and I heard a song which I know as a kaiso, and one of my favorite, "Laziest Man". I think it was done by Spoiler or Terror. I don't remember. But you did it over. Man, I was blown away!!!

You need to do some more of those old kaisos man. Just to push something in there. Lord Psycho has one where he talks about losing his memory. If you know it, work your work and do that one too.

Man, I have your CDs, not the one I wanted but this one I absolutely love. It is hard for me to choose just one track and say “I love it”! But you have a song on that CD that tells of a lady you met on carnival day. I think it is “Love On Carnival Day”. Your arrangements really excite me, man! And that “Energy Solution” song’s arrangements are sweet.

I am very glad that you are a Guyanese. Keep the singing and writing man!!

Collis

comments: I am entirely thrilled that I was able to re-establish contact with you. We go back a long, long way.

At Tagore Memorial High School in the late 60's, you had a tremendous influence on my life. I still remember your persistence that all the boys in the class should address the girls "Miss" by their last name. I still do that to this day. I remember your advice that we should pursue our dreams. That advice was a significant part of my decision to pursue my education abroad right after high school.

I still remember the trip with you and a few other Tagore students to your father's house in Craig. It was such a great gesture for you to spend so much time with us on your first return trip from the USA when you had so little time.

One of the things I enjoyed tremendously in Guyana was the music your band "Sons of India" provided to the people in the community. That is why I was not surprised that you made it big in the music world. I am enjoying your CD's tremendously. It brought back so many memories...! I play your CD's all the time, at home, in the car, at work- incredible!!

I know you have a great love for Guyana and I am certain your sentiments are shared by countless Guyanese....We all need to act on those sentiments!

All the best to you and your family.
